It sounds too good to be true–Acne Studios, the epitome of effortless cool and downtown chic with their staple knitwear and minimalist design, is opening their West Coast flagship store in Los Angeles, of all places. Alas, it’s all true–and this week you’ll get to see for yourself.
Wednesday, December 18th marks the grand opening of the brand’s first West Coast store (San Fran is next), and they chose a 5,000 square foot space in the East Columbia Building on South Broadway.
If you’re a fan of contemporary, directional pieces that convey understated urban cool, this is the brand that can supply your closet staples. The Swedish company that started out in denim is my absolute favorite brand for sweaters and knits, portraying that enviable Scandinavian-cool-kid aesthetic that of course blends right in with LA…(cue the eye-roll and sigh of lament).
If you doubt me, just go back and count how many times I used the word “cool” in the preceding sentences.
In addition to quality pieces that serve as the foundation of a no-fuss wardrobe, the space will house a cafe and a private room for those who want a more intimate shopping experience.
With the arrival of this store comes optimism that DTLA’s shopping scene is on the up and up–though we still have a long way to go to match the bar set by NYC neighborhoods like SoHo (but keep thinking positive, Racked).
This opening couldn’t come at a better time for me, as I prepare to head back east to frigid temperatures and snowy landscapes on Friday. Sweaters for everyone!
See ya Wednesday.
