“When industry professionals and celebrity guests flocked to Paris last week, a relative quiet awaited them. Models chatted with each other about half-empty planes and still hotels. There was an atypical lack of celebrities, with the exceptions of Natalie Portman, Kate Hudson, Dita von Teese, and a few others. Even Instagram—a huge purveyor of fashion week consumption for the masses—was relatively bare on the subject. Perhaps it’s true that haute couture has less real-world appeal than its ready-to-wear sibling, but the mood is no doubt a sign of the times.”
