Crop Tops & High Waists: How to Wear Them This Fall

The phrase “crop top” usually strikes fear or apprehension into the hearts of women.  And when so many women wear them in terribly unflattering ways, those feelings are understandable.

Alas, it is possible to transition the crop top into fall, and it is possible to wear a crop top and still be classy.  I know this is coming from the girl who says it’s OK to go braless (sometimes), but hear me out.

The key is in the bottoms.  Wear your crop top or bra top with a super high waist that sits above the navel for a more flattering, chic, and modest look that’s still sexy while just showing a sliver of skin.  The higher waist covers up any would-be love handles and shows just a peek of torso that creates a touch of allure you don’t always get when donning low-riders and a bra top.  The added benefit is you won’t be terrified to eat a meal while wearing it.  And when styled the right way, it can create a cool vintage or retro look.

I’m digging a super high-waisted A-line or pencil skirt with a structured cropped top that’s either boxy like the one on Hailee Steinfeld or fitted like Rose Byrne’s.  Additionally, a top with a high neck or collar will balance out the show of skin.

(Psst–these skirts showcase other fall trends: windowpane, leather, and cobalt blue!)
