Uniquely You: LBDs, Personal Style, and Midnight in Paris

Maybe it’s the approach of summer and ridiculously high temps, but recently I’ve found myself being drawn to the effortless appeal of dresses.
I’ve always been one for simplicity.  I like throwing on a dress and adding just a few of my own subtle details.  Though my personality may reflect otherwise, I can’t help but be drawn to the beauty of romanticism and femininity in how I dress.  Rich lipstick, a pinch of color on my pale cheeks, and a dress that doesn’t need bells and whistles to get attention.  The timeless LBD is just that dress–classic and versatile.  Retro shapes are also appealing; show me an A-line dress and I’ll show you my credit card.

But the truly great thing about classic and simple is that you don’t have to keep it classic and simple; you can use a dress as the foundation for creating something entirely your own.  Black dresses are particularly great for that, providing a clean palette for you to add all the things that make you, you.  No matter what your personal style, a little black dress is obligatory when it comes to your closet.

Give me a black A-line dress a la the Vivacious and Vibrant Dress found on ModCloth, and my personal choices will go something like this: pops of red and dashes of gold to create the proper mix of allure and sophistication.  As I sip champagne on a night out on the town or at a close friend’s wedding (who says the bride is the only one who gets to look good?), I’ll be dreaming of 1950s Paris.  This outfit’s appeal lies in the details–the red lipstick that stands in contrast to the black while conjuring images of mid-century silver screen starlets, and the gold watch and the delicate chain on your clutch that add a touch of polish and class.

What will you add to your little black dress?  Check out the ones below for inspiration–all available on ModCloth!
