Halloween is the season of creepy-chic—that strange albeit enviable intersection between sinister and glamourous. Nothing so deftly combines old Hollywood beauty with eerie allure like dark lipstick—we’re talking rich, robust hues a la merlot, cabernet, and other wino-inspired shades that conjure images of vampires, witches, and ghouls with berry- (or blood?-) stained lips. Yes, burgundy is the color of the year, but vampy lips have always belonged to October, rotating trends aside. Adding a dark red, berry, or purple lip will never not add a touch of mystery, and whether you mean to or not, who ever said a bit of mystery was a bad thing?
